The word chronic means enduring or lasting illness. Thus, for instance, a long term sufferer of a condition can claim VAT exemption whereas a sufferer of a broken limb cannot submit such a claim.

VAT exemption can also be claimed by charities, but only where the products purchased are to be made available to an individual meeting the above criteria for their personal use.
